Chin Wagging Time –October 2020

Happy Fall!

What a wild ride 2020 has been so far! We certainly are living in interesting times. One has to wonder if it is better to live when the “machine” is chugging along without a hitch or when springs and sprockets are flying every which way.

Here in the mountains of Northern Arizona, we are keeping our heads down and staying busy with part-time in-class schooling for our kids, online adventures, and brainstorming/plotting more stories.

I hope you are staying healthy and keeping busy, as well as finding books, movies, series, outside work, and more to keep your mental and emotional spirits lifted during these crazy times. Meanwhile, my office keeps getting messier and messier, and Mr. Lucky’s outside to-do list is filling pages on its own. Fall in Arizona is a great time to get outside and paint, build, drink beer, swing in a hammock, stare up at the starry sky with a telescope, read a book … well, you can see why we aren’t getting much of that painting and building done.

Anyway, on to this month’s newsletter … I have some exciting things to share with you, including:
* A new release!!! CAN’T RIDE AROUND IT (Deadwood Undertaker Series Book 3).
* Info about the Jackrabbit Junction series, which is hanging out in Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program for a bit.
* The link on where you can find my new Deadwood Mystery Series Reader Notebook.
* A FREE autographed bookmark.
* Videos of behind-the-scenes book talks, a funny new “show” starring Robyn Peterman and me, and other online video craziness I have stockpiled.
* And more!

CAN’T RIDE AROUND IT (Deadwood Undertaker Series–Book 3)

Available in Ebook and Print!

“Witty, scary, exciting! A not-so-classic western show-down that kept me up all night.” ~Jacquie Rogers, Winner of four Will Rogers Gold Medallions and the Laramie Grand Prize

Some things you just can’t ride around …

Jack “Rabbit” Fields knew a good thing when he saw it, whether it was a sound horse, a sure bet, or a pretty sage hen. When it came to locking horns with any curly wolves he ran into along the trail, he tended to shoot first—a notion that had saved his hide more times than he could count. But that was before he came to Deadwood.

Now, someone is stealing freshly dead bodies right out of their graves, and Rabbit and his amigos are on the hunt to figure out who. And more important, why?

Unfortunately, finding the answers to those questions will take plenty of Rabbit’s bullets, and maybe his blood, too. When the shooting stops and the smoke clears, he reckons there will be a whole lot more cold corpses in the Black Hills. With any luck, he won’t be one of them.

Hold onto your hats and saddle up for another action-filled adventure with the Santa Fe Sidewinders, Clementine, Hank, and the rest of the goldurn Deadwood devils!

THE PRINT VERSION WILL BE AVAILABLE OCTOBER 4th VIA AMAZON. (You will be able to purchase it from my store and other vendors later in October.)

You can make notes of the names Violet calls Cooper, the funny Harvey-isms you want to remember, the different odd folks that show up in each book, the delicious meals Harvey makes that you want to try, the theories you have about what will happen next and who is going to cause some ruckus, and more. So, grab a pen and a Deadwood Mystery book and get busy writing!

Live Events on Facebook (and now YouTube) for Your Viewing Entertainment…

I’ve been busy lately shooting “live” videos and plan to have a lot more fun online this fall with those of you who want to join me.

Shooting the Sh*t with Ann & Robyn

A good friend of mine, NYT and USA Today Bestselling Author Robyn Peterman, and I have a blast when we are together either in person or on the phone. During one late night phone call, we decided it might be fun to hang out together online and talk about life and writing and whatever else comes to mind while “live” on Facebook to enjoy more interaction with our readers and friends. From the start, we didn’t want this to be the typical “author interview” type of show. We wanted it to be more like we’re sitting at a cafe or bar while we share stories and laughs with each other and anyone who wants to hang out with us virtually. Viewers can comment and join in the discussions if they want, or just watch and enjoy. We decided to call our show: Shooting the Sh*t with Ann and Robyn, and the first two shows are available to view on my YouTube channel if you want to check them out.

We had a great reception to the first two shows and are in the midst of planning the next couple. We are thinking we’ll do a live broadcast once a month. The next show (October) we’ll have special guest, Renee George (cozy paranormal mystery author and our good friend). You can enjoy the shows LIVE on Facebook or watch the replay on my YouTube channel afterward.

Behind the Scenes with Ann Charles … more to come

Back between March and early June, I did some Facebook Live “shows” for an hour or so once a week, talking with readers and answering questions about my books. I did eleven shows covering books 1-10 in the Deadwood Mystery series, and all five Deadwood Shorts.

If you need something to listen to while working on a puzzle, enjoying a cold drink in the shade, or taking a walk, you can find links to these shows on my [Behind the Scenes with Ann Charles website page] and Youtube (https://anncharles.com/behind-the-scenes-with-ann-charles/).

Stay tuned on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more details on the next Behind the Scenes–or check my calendar of events page on my website.

Ann’s Online Book Signing

Online Book Signing: In August, I tried my first “live” book signing on Facebook and it was a blast! I plan to have another online book signing this fall. Stay tuned for dates. (I’ll put this on my calendar of events, too.)

How does an online book signing work? Viewers ordered an autographed print book through my Ann Charles Store on my website, they let me know what they wanted me to write and to whom, and then I signed their books online while they watched/commented, chatting back and forth with them a little while I signed.

If you’d like to see how the event went and what it’s like to sit with an author during a book signing, check out the video of August’s signings!

Free Stuff!

To celebrate the release of CAN’T RIDE AROUND IT, the 3rd book in the Deadwood Undertaker Series, Sam Lucky and I are giving away a free autographed (by both of us) bookmark.

To receive a bookmark, send your name and physical mailing address with CAN’T RIDE BOOKMARK in the Subject line to DeadwoodProspector@gmail.com (or send me an email via my Connect page with the above details).

Podcasts, Interviews, Articles, and Everything Else Under the Sun

I’ve been busy over the last year or so giving interviews here and there. I’ve done podcasts, written some articles, given phone interviews, and participated in Zoom and other online videos.

If you’re looking to fill hours of time listening to my voice while I talk about writing, books, life, and much more, head over to my blog and check out my Interviews post. We keep adding to it every time I give an interview, so stop back for new “good stuff” periodically.

Moon the Cook: Drool Inspiring Recipes from Ann Charles’
Characters and Their Friends
With the help of Mark and Michelle Davis (good friends of Sam and me as well as many of my characters), we are in the process of publishing a cookbook that will be released in my Ann Charles store in late November. This cookbook is full of recipes for the dishes you have read about in my books, including delicious dishes from Old Man Harvey, Ruby, Rabbit, the Monkey Brothers, and Maria down in the Yucatan–and many more! Stay tuned for more information and links on where you can buy your copy once it’s available in print.

Christmas with the Deadwood Undertaker crew …
Sam Lucky and I are working on Deadwood Undertaker Christmas novella. Our goal is to have it available in early December. Stay tuned for some holiday fun with Clementine, Rabbit, Boone, Hank.

More Deadwood Mystery Series …
Deadwood Mystery Series Book 12 is next up on my to-do list. I’ll be working on it while Sam and I write the Deadwood Undertaker Christmas novella.

Dig Site and Jackrabbit Junction Series …
There will be more books in these two series to come, but Deadwood is stealing the spotlight through the end of 2020.

Thank you for all of your support. Until next time, pull your shirttail out and keep breathing easy.

Ann
