As the release of the 4th book in my Jackrabbit Junction Mystery series draws near (January 31, 2016), I thought it would be fun to share some of the pictures I’ve taken in southeastern Arizona where the fictional town of Jackrabbit Junction is set. These pictures were taken in the spring. They give you an idea of the landscape and blue sky that has ensnared Claire’s heart, making her want to live in the “boonies” among the jackrabbits and tumbleweeds.
Whenever I am in southeastern Arizona, I enjoy the feeling of so much space around me, the fresh desert air, and the interesting little spiky plants of all kinds. There are the amazing sunsets that just seem to go on and on, filling the big sky with all sorts of colors as the sun sinks behind the western mountain ranges.
Arizona has several Biomes (a large naturally occurring community of flora and fauna occupying a major habitat, e.g., forest or desert.) According to the Arizona Habitats website (http://arizonaexperience.org/land/az-habitats), the Transition Zone “yields to the mountain ranges, sky islands, and intervening valleys of the Basin and Range Province. Each area has unique vegetation and wildlife that has adapted to thrive in that specific habitat.” In other words, adapted to different Biomes, such as the Desert, the Chaparral, or the Temperate deciduous forest up high in the Basin and Range mountain sky islands.
My fictional town of Jackrabbit Junction is in the Basin and Range region, which consists of many ranges of Northwest-to-Southeast folded and faulted mountains with wide open basins or valleys between them.

Waiting for hardwood book 7! When will I get to see this
If you mean the next Deadwood book, it will be in the summer of 2016.
Do you know when the audiobook will be available for this one?
Hi Jessica, Lisa (the narrator) is currently working on the audio version. We hope to have it life by the end of March 2016. 🙂 Thanks! Ann
Found your books when I was in Deadwood this past summer and just started reading the Deadwood series – love it! Why aren’t all your books available on paper? I’m not a kindle-kind-of-gal. Also, where can I get those purple boots?
Hi Susan–All of my books are available on paper. Which book are you looking for? Currently, I’m in the midst of switching my expanded distribution company, so you can only find my print books in the Deadwood area and on Amazon. However, in the next month or two, they should be available again from online distributors and more. Stay tuned and thank you for asking. If you want to email me about where you can find a certain book, send me an email at ann@anncharles.com. 🙂 Ann
